হাজী আবদুর রউফ ছিলেন একজন ধর্মপ্রাণ ও মানব হিতোষী মানুষ। তিনি এলাকায় নিজ বসত গৃহ নির্মাণের পাশাপাশি মসজিদ ও মাদ্রাসা প্রতিষ্ঠানসহ বিভিন্ন সামাজিক কর্মকাণ্ডে অগ্রণী ভূমিকা পালন করেন। যা তাকে নিয়ে যায় এলাকার হত দরিদ্র ও ভাগ্যহত মানুষের আরো কাছে।
ক্ষুধার্তকে অন্ন, আর্তকে সহায়তা, অসুস্থকে চিকিৎসা, নিরাশ্রয়কে আশ্রয় এবং ব্যথিতকে সমবেদনা জানিয়ে তিনি বাঘঘোনা এলাকায় মানবিকতার যে বিকাশ ঘটিয়েছিলেন তাঁর আকস্মিক ও অকাল মৃত্যুতে সবই শেষ হয়ে যাবার উপক্রম হয়। কিন্তু বেগম রউফ তা হতে দেননি। নিজের সংসারে নানা টানাপোড়া সত্ত্বেও তিনি স্বামীর পতাকা হাতে এগিয়ে যান। কাছে আসতে থাকেন এলাকার মহিলারা। অনেকেই প্রাণ খুলে তাঁর কাছে বলতে পারলেন নিজ সুবিধা-অসুবিধার কথা। সম্ভাব্য সকল উপায়ে তাদের সাহায্য করে যেতেন তিনি। এভাবে আমৃত্যু তিনি চালিয়ে যান নীরবে-নিভৃত এক কল্যাণ প্রচেষ্টা।
কিন্তু তাঁর ইন্তেকালে সৃষ্টি হয় শূণ্যতা। যা অনুভব করতে থাকেন এলাকার ঐসব মানুষেরা যাদের অন্তরাত্মা কথা বলেনা, গুমরে মরে। কেমন যেন একটা অভাববোধ আচ্ছন্ন করতে থাকে এমন অনেককে যাদের প্রয়োজন কিছু সাহায্য, কিছুটা সহায়তা এবং দু’দন্ড স্বস্থি।
সেই সব মানুষের নীরব কান্না যেন সাগর-মহাসাগর পাড়ি দিয়ে পৌছাতে থাকলো সুদূর আমেরিকার যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে। জনাব ও বেগম রউফের সুযোগ্য সন্তান শামসুল ইসলাম মজনু রয়েছেন সেখানে। মা-বাবার কথা যখনই মনে পড়েছে, তখনই মনে হয়েছে এলাকার ঐসব মানুষের কথা যাদের অসহায় মুখ আজ যে আরো অসহায়।
কি করা যায়, কেমনে করা যায় এমনি সব ভাবনা-চিন্তায় সময় কেটে যেতে থাকে আর বাড়তে থাকে তাঁর মানসিক যন্ত্রণা। শেষে বাধ্য হয়ে স্বশরীরে চলে আসেন দেশে। সময়ের সাথে পাল্লা দিয়ে গুছিয়ে নেন সব। প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয় “বি. আর. ফাউন্ডেশন”। বর্তমান পর্যায়ে সীমিত সম্পদ নিয়ে যাত্রা শুরু করেছে বি. আর. ফাউন্ডেশন। ছোট্ট একটি সেবা পরিচালিত হবে এই পর্যায়ে। সামনে বিশাল স্বপ্নের পাহাড়।

But Begum Rauf did not let that happen. Despite the poverty of her family, she goes ahead with husband's flag.
